Interdigital Fibroma in Sheep

ByEvelyn MacKay, DVM, Texas A&M University
Reviewed/Revised Jun 2022

An interdigital fibroma is a mass of fibrous tissue between the toes that may resemble a papilloma. If not removed, it enlarges, spreading the toes. Tendrils grow upward between the first phalanges, causing severe lameness. If the fibroma is detected early, surgical removal (cryosurgery and electrocautery) may be successful; however, by the time it causes lameness, the tendrils cannot be totally removed from between the phalanges, and the fibroma tends to recur.
