Horn tips of fetal membranes, equine

Courtesy of Dr. Patricia Sertich.

Fetal membranes should be carefully examined, making certain that the edematous thicker gravid horn tip (left) and the thinner, puckered nongravid horn tip (right) are present. The most common portion of placenta to be retained is the nongravid horn tip.
