The American Heartworm Society, in conjunction with the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, has developed a new set of recommendations designed to prevent the transmission of heartworm in dogs. The guidelines suggest best practices in cases where dogs are being moved, either for a personal move or as part of relocation following a natural disaster such as the recent hurricanes that hit the US and Caribbean islands.
