Proposed cuts to the USDA budget would lead to loss of ongoing studies of brucellosis in wildlife. This comes despite the assessment from a panel at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) that more research is needed, not less. Greater understanding of the disease among elk and bison in western states and reducing the threat of transmission to livestock will be compromised if the funds are lost.

More about the NAS panel’s recommendation to USDA on brucellosis can be found at Tri-state Livestock News.
