Horse with a mass near left eye

History of Present Illness

A 29-year-old Appaloosa mare is brought to the clinic by her owner for further evaluation. She has a mass near the left eye that has been present for a few years but has increased in size. Recently, the mass has become ulcerated and painful, and drainage from the mass is causing skin irritation in the area below the eye. The owner has been treating the mass with topical antibiotic ointment with no improvement.
