The FDA issued an alert to veterinarians about an increase in cases of dilated cardiomyopathy in breeds not usually prone to the disorder. The disease was associated with eating diets containing a mix of specific ingredients, such as peas, lentils, and potatoes (i.e., grain-free commercial foods).

Veterinarians are encouraged to report suspected cases to the FDA using their Safety Reporting Portal.
