EEE Cases Reported in Several East Coast States

In recent weeks eastern equine encephalomyelitis (EEE) has been reported in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. In three counties in Pennsylvania, mosquitoes tested positive for the virus. In Delaware, sentinel chickens tested positive in all three counties. In New Jersey, three human cases have been reported and more than 12 horses have been put down because of the disease. Additional human cases, including five deaths, have been reported in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
