The American Association of Feline Practitioners has published updated guidelines for veterinarians on feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). The guidelines include information on pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention and treatment. In addition, a client brochure provides cat owners with information on transmission, testing, prevalence, and precautions to help care for cats. The guidelines were developed by an international panel of researchers and practitioners and replace the set of guidelines issued in 2008.

More details on the new guidelines on feline retroviruses can be read at Phys.org. The full guidelines have been published in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery.

More information on FeLV and FIV is available in the Merck Veterinary Manual.
