Anaplasma phagocytophilum, cytological image, horse
Photomicrographs of blood from a horse with equine granulocytic anaplasmosis. At the center of each image is a neutrophil containing one or more Anaplasma phagocytophilum morulae. In panels A, B, and C, the neutrophil contains one morula (arrow); in panel D, the neutrophil contains several smaller morulae (arrows). The erythrocytes surrounding the neutrophil in panels A and D exhibit rouleau formation, a normal finding in horses. Wright-Giemsa stain; scale bar = 10 mcm.
