Body condition scoring, ewe
Assessment of body condition score (BCS) in a ewe, demonstrating palpation of the epaxial muscles along the lumbar spine. By running the fingers over the spine cranial to caudal and feeling the amount of muscling and fat cover over the vertebrae, the evaluator can accurately determine BCS. Proper technique focuses on tactile assessment rather than visual appearance, ensuring a reliable BCS for management and breeding decisions.
