Intestinal volvulus, radiographs, lateral and ventrodorsal views, dog

Lateral and ventrodorsal radiographs of a 2-year-old neutered male German Shepherd Dog with intestinal volvulus (colonic torsion in addition to a partial torsion of the small intestine). On the lateral projection, note the large gas-filled colon that deviates downward at the level of the pelvis. Additionally, there are multiple gas-filled loops of small intestines. On the ventrodorsal projection, note the large gas-filled colon in an abnormal position in the left side of the abdomen. The metal clips are residual from a previous gastric dilation and volvulus surgery 1 year earlier.
