Study Shows That Complete Tumor Excision Cuts Risk of Recurrence by Sixty Percent
Commentary05/31/19 By Merck Veterinary Manual

A meta-analysis of soft tissue sarcomas in dogs found the risk of recurrence was 10% when there was a complete surgical excision, compared to 33% when there was microscopic evidence of tumor cells remaining. A total of 10 studies, which surveyed 278 cases, was summarized in the analysis.

More details on the study of effectiveness of surgery for soft tissue sarcoma in dogs can be read in the MSD Manual, consumer version. The original research was published in Veterinary and Comparative Oncology.
