The growing level of antimicrobial resistance among pathogens remains a major concern in both human and animal health. AVMA has just issued a new report that outlines the state of antimicrobial resistance as it applies to multiple animal species. The organization worked with microbiologists, epidemiologists, and other experts to assess the status of resistance to available antimicrobials and to help veterinarians, animal owners, and producers use antimicrobial drugs responsibly.

A news item about the report summarizing antimicrobial resistance in animals is available from AVMA. The full report can also be downloaded here.

A commentary that discusses issues related to antimicrobial resistance is also available from the Merck Veterinary Manual.
