Differentiating Haemonchus contortus from other trichostrongyles

To differentiate Haemonchus contortus eggs from other similar-looking trichostrongyle eggs, a specialized fluorescein-labeled peanut agglutinin stain can be applied. H contortus eggs take up the stain and fluoresce under UV light, as this photomicrograph shows; other trichostrongyle eggs (yellow arrowhead) do not fluoresce.
