Heat stress, horse
In racing Thoroughbreds, even after exercise is complete, core temperatures can continue to increase, particularly when mechanisms of heat dissipation are impaired by heat and humidity. As shown in this photograph, neurological deficits such as abnormal behavior and ataxia may appear. Clinical signs progress from irritable to unmanageable behavior and, ultimately, to convulsions, coma, and death.
