Transverse CT, skull, ethmoid hematoma, horse

Transverse CT image of the skull in a horse displayed in a soft tissue window. The left of the patient is to the right of the image. A well-defined mass that is soft tissue attenuating with multiple regions of marked hyperattenuation is present within the left frontal sinus (arrow). This was ultimately determined to be an ethmoid hematoma. This may have been identifiable but incompletely characterized on skull radiographs; however, CT allows for complete evaluation and can potentially guide further treatment, such as with surgery.
